P.S.What others are saying about the movie

David Ehrlich, The A.V. Club gave the film an A, deeming it “the best animated movie of the year,” adding that it is “destined to be remembered as one of the revered Studio Ghibli’s finest achievements.”

Nicolas Rapold, The New York Times praised the artwork calling it “exquisitely drawn with both watercolor delicacy and a brisk sense of line.”

“The Tale of Prince Kaguya” currently has a fresh 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 58 reviews. Many of Kaguya’s elements will be familiar to viewers who’ve read or know the basic structure of the 10th century literary classic it draws from. Its visual style, though, is unprecedented, composed of subdued colors and vaguely sketched outlines that are in stark contrast to the ultra-polished look of most other Studio Ghibli films. From Studio Ghibli, the award-winning studio that brought you “Spirited Away,” “My Neighbor Totoro,” and “The Wind Rises” comes a powerful and sweeping epic that redefines animated storytelling and marks a triumphant highpoint within an extraordinary filmmaking career for director Isao Takahata.

Tom Brueggemann, Indiewire: Enterprising GKids has managed to break into the Oscar Animated Feature race with several foreign-made films, and this Studio Ghibli is positioned to continue that trend. This is the best-reviewed animated film of the year (by a large margin). Its opening numbers are quite strong, particularly with the modest ad buy.

The Hollywood Reporter: Takahata’s “The Tale of Princess Kaguya” (Kaguya no Monogatari) is the fourth time Studio Ghibli has been nominated, though the first for a non-Miyazaki production. Miyazaki’s Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) won the best animated feature Oscar in 2003.

The Telegraph: As beautiful and imaginative as anything Ghibli has yet created!

Variety: A visionary tour-de-force!

Le Monde: A masterpiece!

Indiewire: Brilliant!

The Telegraph: Astonishing!
